Facebook Group Member Spotlight - Logan Powell / by Brian Suman

Logan Powell-0001-Brian Suman Photography.jpg

A couple of years ago, Logan and I began to share our interest in photography and have collaborated multiple times on various projects including video.

He is passionate about his craft and looks to take his talents to the mission field in the upcoming years and help people tell their story. His inspiration has also sparked my interest in videography and his style of photography favors the 'moody' style with darker, rich tones.

Check out his work on IG and Facebook and if you are looking to collaborate with another photography or someone that is on top their game with video make sure you connect.

I had the privilege to sit down with Logan this week and ask him a few questions to dig deeper into his passion for his craft.

1. How were you inspired to take an interest in your craft?

A friend who was a film maker and taking various trips to Guatemala which sparked my interest in travel photogaphy.

2. Which of your creative accomplishments gave you the most satisfaction, and why?

A short film I created earlier this year gave me the chance to initially learn to apply color grading to video footage and more experience using an s-log2 color profile.

3. Where do you feel most creative, and are there any environments which lowers your productivity?

Nature, traveling, and coffee shops is where I feel most creative. Indoor or studio work lowers my productivity as a creator based on less experience in that environment.

4. Have you ever worked directly with clients and if so, how?

Real estate, drone, and portrait photography as well as videography for The Hamiltonian Magazine.

5. What's the last thing you learned that you felt was a game-changer?

Posing a model during portrait sessions and creating connectivity with that person.

6. What one thing would you like to learn to bolster your creativity?

How to find inspiration during a creative funk.

7. Who are your current influencers?

Peter McKinnon, Aaron Malloy, Corry Woodruff, Brian Suman

8. Where do you want to take your craft in the next year? How do you see yourself using your talents over the next 5 years?

In the next year, I would like to either work for someone else or freelance as the opportunities arise. Long term, I see myself using photo and/or video to wok in the mission field to tell other's story and to raise awareness for various causes/organizations.

9. How do you manage work/life balance and find time to work on your craft? Do you find yourself wanting to include others in your desire to grow as an artist?

I usually dedicate time to my craft as I feel the creative desire and schedule allows. Yes, using social media connections and surrounding myself with other like-minded creatives.

10. How do you define your personal success?

If I am able to see a vision for an artistic idea and able to execute it even if the final result is not exactly what was originally envisioned. Long term, doing what I love to do full time and helping others with my craft.
