Gear isn’t everything but it is nice to have something exceptional in your gear bag.
In the last few weeks, I have made the attempt to downsize what gear I have and simply hold onto just what I need or sell and re-purchase something more applicable for my current needs. In doing so, I purchased the Sony 90mm macro lens and let me say I have not been disappointed. The DXOMARK rating of 47 was on point and I can’t wait to put this lens to more testing in the near future.
I haven’t had a whole lot of time with the lens but here is my first impression.
Sliding focus ring. Honestly, I didn’t think I would like it but in no time at all being able to switch back-and-forth between manual and auto focus without having to look or feel on the side of the lens for the slide switch is very valuable.
Quality of build. Sony, by far, makes some of the best ascetically pleasing gear in the market and their lenses are no exception. Not only do they look great, the quality is superior and this lens doesn’t disappoint.
Sharpness. Hands down this is the sharpest lens that I have used and it matches what the reviews say about it. Even with video, you will right away see this lens performs which makes this lens a steal for the price.
